While I was in Bangkok a few months ago, I accidentally stumbled upon a tiny Thai cooking school while in search of some specialty cookware. The people who ran the school were so helpful in pointing me in the right direction that I stopped by again on the way back to my hotel. Chef Lee Boonloh had just baked some amazing “European” western-style breads, which she was selling out front of the shop. She had a line around the block, and once I got up front, I found out why – Chef Lee is an amazing baker!
In a country where western bread doesn’t seem to exist, Chef Lee is teaching local Thai people about the art of European-style baking. We’re talking light, airy loaves of bread that float to the sky like a cloud of floury silk. The locals literally ate it up, and the line of little old ladies out front was a common occurrence, according to a guy who lived down the street.
So, if you’re ever in Thailand and want to learn how to bake, I recommend you check out Chef Lee’s cooking school. She also teaches Thai cooking to tourists, and she’s got quite a list of authentic Thai recipes on her website.
